They have diverse backgrounds with significant experience at executive level within high technology companies in Australia, Europe and the US. Their experience is broad spectrum across industry sectors including internet, networking, mobile telephony and location based services. Having managed both multi-billion dollar businesses and start-ups alike, they are passionate about building our company into a dominate player within the “next big evolution” in the internet. Our parent company is incorporated in Delaware, US with an R&D subsidiary in Brisbane, Australia.
Our patented technology and platforms development is entering a rapid build phase targeting release 1 later this year. We require a senior developer/software architect to take a principal role within this phase of development and further. This opportunity is a cornerstone role within our R&D team, with the right candidate becoming a founding member of this team, with the prospect to grow into a future team leadership role. Furthermore, the successful candidate will help shape the team and its culture at the grass roots level, and play a key role in providing solutions to meet our business initiatives.
This is a hands-on role and the successful candidate will be expected to architect and program on a daily basis. This role is based in the Brisbane, Australia with a possible opportunity to relocate to the US with the growth of the company. Objectives and Principal Duties
§ Deliver outstanding software solutions to meet and exceed our business objectives
§ Develop architectural strategy based on technology and business vision
§ Develop and manage architectural guiding principles that will guide technology decisions that are consistent with the strategic objectives
§ Understand requirements, implement designs, provide administration tools and documentation for specific projects
§ Perform hands-on coding directly
§ Identify requirements, provide input to, and participate in design reviews
§ Maintain ownership of the projects assigned
§ Consistently meet aggressive project deadlines
§ Participate in delivering quality and reliability of our solution throughout the product life cycle
§ Evaluate new technologies and software to determine the feasibility and desirability of utilising their capabilities for an application
§ To develop and drive applicable process and procedure improvement and adherence within the team in the spirit of continuous improvement and formalisation of best practise
§ To identify and manage risk in project activities and take responsibility for reporting risks in a timely, open and appropriate manner
§ Proactively investigate future technologies which will give our products a competitive advantage
§ Working with external development partners including open source community
§ Mentor and assist in the development of less senior team members
§ Produce documentation associated with the design and development of products
§ Manage and report the progress of assigned tasks, in order to ensure project timescale are achieved
Essential role related knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience
§ Must have comprehensive knowledge and insight into leading edge software techniques, programming methodologies and solutions (including open source) around:
§ Semantic technologies and Semantic web (Web 3.0) Mandatory
§ Scalability / Cloud computing (Amazon Web Services, Google App Engine) Mandatory
§ Large scale, enterprise applications with high transaction volume Mandatory
§ Ontology engineering, knowledge and information reasoning including complex algorithm development Highly desirable
§ Natural Language Processing including concept and meaning extraction and ontology mapping Desirable
§ Mobile Devices (iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile) Highly desirable
§ Browser technologies Desirable
§ HTML5, Google Web Kit and JavaScript Desirable
§ Metadata Stores Desirable
§ Communication protocols (email, RSS, twitter, IM, XMPP, Wave, etc) Highly desirable
§ Strong programming skills, standards, procedures and methodologies applied in complex, enterprise grade, software solutions (8+ yrs) Mandatory
§ A track record of successfully leading and participating in small, dynamic software engineering projects with aggressive deadlines (6+ yrs) Mandatory
§ Mentality and experience to build easy-to-use form of solutions for consumer markets – i.e. hiding the complexity of the underlying technology to deliver a world class consumer experience Highly desirable
§ Enterprise Java including experience with Spring Framework (5+ yrs) Mandatory
§ Expertise in Agile software development using TDD and SCRUM techniques Highly desirable
§ PhD in Software Engineering Highly desirable
§ Experience working as part of a multi-disciplined project team Highly desirable
§ Start-up experience would be an advantage, but not essential Highly desirable
